How to setup a new Internet Printer Port in Windows 2000, XP, 2003.

There doesn't seem to be any option to create a new Internet printer port in Windows under the usual Create Port dialog boxes accessible from Control Panel -> Printer and Faxes -> File -> Server Properties or from the Ports -> Add Port... of the properties of an existing printer.

This is strange since you are given the opportunity to create an Internet port if you add a new printer.

So the easiest way I could find to create an Internet port was to start adding a printer, then cancelling it after the port was created and before the printer driver is actually chosen.

You can tell Windows to use a user that is defined on the IPP server (usually as unpriviledged):

That's all. You can check that the port was created by having a look in the Control Panel -> Printer and Faxes -> File -> Server Properties -> Ports :
